That was the question of “Fox & Friends”, who invited viewers to send in their own videos with their push-up bravery.

“Although every body is different, the number of push-ups you can do is often a good indicator of a person’s muscular power and endurance,” Regis Pagett, founder and owner of R Personal Fitness in New York City, told Fox News Digital.

Based on data from Mayo Clinic, below is a breakdown of how many push-ups men and women should be able to complete based on age.

People in thirty must be able to do at least 19 (women) and 21 (men).
People in the forty must be able to do at least 14 (women) and 16 (men).
People in fifty must be able to do at least 10 (women) and 12 (men).
People from the 60s (both sexes) must be able to do at least 10 push-ups.

Weight-bearing exercises such as push-ups can help increase bone density, which is especially important as people get older, according to Pagett.

Push-ups mainly work on the chest muscles (chest), where the triceps are secondary in the movement, where the core (abdominal muscles) delivers the strength to keep the body straight through the movement, according to Pagett.

An earlier Harvard study showed that the ability of men to do 40 or more push-ups at 50 years old, reduces the chance of cardiovascular disease by 96% compared to men who could do 10 or less, Pagett noted.

“The study also showed that every push-up had a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease after 10,” he added.

Another option is to do “negative push-ups”, in which the person starts from a long plank position and the body slowly lowers to the floor.
With slope push-ups, the person can use a raised surface and make his way to the floor.
